Looking Back...A Day to Remember!

Caden was excited to be baptized on July 3, 2011. I heard about the excitement about five times this day... "I can't wait to be baptized."

Caden asked Jesus into his heart in the Fall of 2010 (6 years old) and was ready to tell the world. Can you see the JOY!?

He was blessed to be baptized along with 71 others believers under the crosses.

For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him...

should not perish,

but have everlasting life!

John 3:16

Our dream for you Caden is to love God with all your heart, with all your strength, and with all your soul...to make a difference for Christ.

May God's light SHINE through your life.

We are proud of you! We love you Caden!

My Baby is Having Surgery

Tomorrow, July 27, 10:00 A.M. Caden will be having surgery on his nose. He has a growth that is blocking 85% of one side of his nose. He will have to be put to sleep. This is an outpatient surgery, so even though it's not major...anything with regards to your baby...is a BIG DEAL.

It makes this momma nervous.

Prayers will be appreciated!

Philippians 4:6- "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."

Update: Day 4, Caden's surgery went very well. The Dr. said, we did the right thing. When he got in there there was 75% blockage with pus all over his anoids. He bounced back pretty quick; however, he has complained of a sore throat, which is understandable.

Square Foot Gardening

This year we stepped out of the box and tried something new to us...Square Foot Gardening. The boys helped build the boxes for me on Mother's Day. We only did two boxes as a trial run this year.

We planted our garden late, so we are just now seeing things grow, but it is exciting.

One bed alone was devoted to my favorite food...strawberries.

We also have tomato, jalapenos, cucumber, squash, and watermelon planted.

Michael noticed a rabbit nibbling away one day, so we ended up putting a fence around each box to keep the critters out.

What I love about SFG is there is NO weeds! It is all organic! I can reach each square easily. It takes up little space. It holds water very well due to the 5-6 different ingredients that make up the soil. It is smaller, but I can grow just as much as I did in my big garden. After reading the book...it just makes sense.

I've been pondering...coming back into blogging.

Then remembering why I started.

I want to look back on 2011 with all the great memories we are making. I want our boys to open one of the yearly blog books and look back with fond memories. (Ummm, still working on my first one...sigh) It has been a nice break away, but I'm ready to DIVE back in.

So, with that being said....

I'm happy to be back!

Record Breaking Blizzard

Last night I went to bed thinking we would be getting the 2-4 inches of snow that was predicted. When I woke up I was giddy when I looked out the window. The predictions had changed to up to 10" at this point. Before the day was over we had a record amount of snow fall in Northwest Arkansas. It started snowing 2-3 inches an hour. At our house we got over 12 inches, but other places got up to 26"+ of snow! This is the most snow I have ever seen. It's crazy, but I love it.

The forecast eventually turned into this...

This is the 6th consecutive day of school we have missed now, and I predict we will not go for the rest of the week.

It is absolutely gorgeous outside! I love how calm everything is when a big snow comes. Calm except for the many birds who came to eat.

It was a relaxing day,

which included snow ice-cream.

I could not put the camera down.

At one point Daisy grabbed the ruler out of the ground. She was ready to measure the snow her way.

Cyclops was formed. This is the backside of our snowman. The 'eye' is the stocking cap that sat on top of the snowman.

Good thing Daisy sleeps in the room with the boys, however she loves the snow.

It did not stay calm for long. Michael headed outside to measure the snow.

I followed with the camera.

What I saw next had me laughing for at least 30 minutes.

I am talking laugh so hard that my stomach got a workout...so hard, I HAD to sit down.

Our steps were covered. Michael missed the bottom step and just rolled. When I saw that smile and knew he was okay... I lost it!

His response was to give me a hug and say, "I love your laugh, so it was worth it."

Thanks for making me laugh today. Laughter is such good medicine!

Happy 2011! I decided to participate in Project 365 this year! I want to improve my photography skills as well as document our daily life and randomness. I have decided even if I cannot blog every day, I can at least blog one picture for each day of the week. (At least try)

Caden lost a tooth at school. He was so excited and had to come to my pre-k room to show me.

Purge, purge, purge. Part of re-doing the office was to go through my magazines that were taking up so much cabinet space. I already had marked the pages I was interested in, so I tore those out, organized them into a binder, and now have more room! It feels great! Two of the recycle bins full of magazines...GONE.

Michael and I had a good time shopping, while the boys were staying the night with friends. Decisions, decisions, decisions! We are deciding on new flooring for our home. Lots of projects for 2011!

It's hard to believe that 2010 is coming to an end. Before it does I thought I would take a moment to look back over the year and some of your favorite posts and some of mine. This makes my 84th post of the year.

January started off with a bang with the SHRED! Lots of bloggers got on board and started shredding right along with me.

February started off with some fun projects: Homemade Valentines. These were a big hit!

I also made my "Random Acts of Kindness" tree

March I shared a great tip on how to get an early start on Spring by forcing blooms.

I also showed how to spice up your marriage with The Great Date Experiment here and here.

April was our interesting April Fools Dinner.

The appetizers...

May I shared a tip on how to help your children memorize bible verses.

June was my number one post of the year. The Watermelon Turtle tutorial. :)

July was all about big bubbles!

August...I started teaching again after being home with my boys for eight years.

September...I shared my life through Daybook posts.

October we added a new member to our family...Daisy!

November we had our family pictures taken (by my talented cousin) for the first time since Caden was born! (I know...about time!) This is the first peek at our pictures. I will do better....I've already booked a photo shoot for next year!

December I shared my first bokeh picture and how Cameron was sick.

Christmas 2010

This Christmas went by so fast. We started taking down decorations today, but left the main decor for Aaron for when he comes home for Christmas. He was suppose to join us on Christmas day, but Cameron had 103.7 fever, so he opted to wait until this week. Thursday, Cameron jumped off the back of the truck and sprained his ankle really bad. He has crawled up until today. Cameron and I are praying that being sick/hurt will not be a tradition!

Christmas day...He played for about 30 minutes in the morning and did this the rest of the day.

Overall we had a nice Christmas. We have several home projects in works including new floor in the kitchen, laundry, and office. We have a bathroom to finish and so much more. I finally admitted I needed help. Sometimes that's hard for me to do. I asked my sister if she would host our family get together again this year. (It was my turn, which normally I LOVE to do.) She graciously obliged...thanks sis! That took a lot of pressure off me of trying to get everything done. Since I'm teaching, I just don't have all the time now.

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards. It was so fun to receive cards from some blogging friends last Christmas! We finally got a family pictures taken this year. It was a long time coming. So, along with having pictures done and Shutterfly...Christmas cards will be easy this year! Well, if I can get them in the mail! I'm so behind this year due to my new job. Busy, busy, busy. I haven't even started shopping yet...yikes!

Thanksgiving Blessings

This morning on my way to Thanksgiving dinner with Michael's family, I was listening to a christian radio station interview the parents of Michael Orr. Who is Michael? The movie and the book Blindside was based on the their true story. If you haven't seen that movie yet...just do it!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving; however, it was unfortunately cut short due to the sleet that was falling. With a two hour drive home we didn't want to take a chance.

Well, on our way home there was a homeless man standing beside a busy intersection . Michael is at Wal-mart, so I call him and tell him to pick up some gloves and stocking cap, some BBQ chicken and water. After hearing the message this morning on how this couple felt lead to "just turn around", I felt the Lord tug on my heart about helping this man. It is so cold and is suppose to get below 20 tonight. Michael also bought him a coat and gave him $20. (I told him he only had on a jacket.)

I am so thankful to have a home to stay warm in, a family who loves me, and food. I'm thankful the basic needs are met... plus so much more.

I hope we all are taking the time to reflect on our blessings today. I am blessed!

Please say a prayer for those who are alone on this Thanksgiving day, for those who are hungry, for those who are cold, and for those who are sick.

Psalm 107:1 "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever."

Recently I had the opportunity to take a day off work and join my youngest on a field trip to the Gentry Safari. He was excited that I got to come along.

First we did a drive through of the Safari. Caden rode the bus through, and I rode with my sister and her hubby.

After the drive through the students ate their lunch and walked around to see the caged animals up close like the pigs, snake, monkeys, turtles, kangaroos, zebra, and more.

Last, but not least...the petting zoo...

He has always enjoyed the goats.

He took over my camera for most of the day and my sun glasses!

My favorite is always the monkeys and chimps. This one was the show off!

The highlight of the day...

Mr. Show Off was making 'rasberry' sounds and had us clap for him. So funny!

The boys finally took their "perfect" pumpkins they found at the pumpkin patch and decided to draw a face and carve away. First, you have to make the ewwwww face while taking out the insides. Caden did not care for that part at all. He moved to a spoon pretty quick.

Ummm, Cameron eventually moved to the spoon too.

I cannot wait to try a new recipe for pumpkin seeds I found. Isn't that the cutest little pumpkin stem?

After carving pumpkins, we headed out to a Trunk or Treat at my sister's church.

The surgeon is enjoying his rare treat after a big day.

Bloggin' Buddies Meet

I love blogging! I know I haven't been the best blogger lately, but I will hit my groove again. Blogging is my way of relaxing. It is also my scrapbook and journal for my family. The cool part of blogging that I did not expect, when I first started, is all the awesome blogs out there. However, It's not just the awesome blogs, but the inspiring people behind those blogs. I have some fantastic blog friends, and I had the chance recently to meet one in real life!

I was so excited to meet up with Kenlie from All the Weigh recently. She is so sweet, and I had a blast hanging out with her. Kenlie is from New York and has lost over 120 pounds. She is one dedicated and determined chick...I admire that in her. It was just like meeting a friend to catch up. It was so fun to actually get to meet one of my buddies!

After shopping at Pier 1 and Hobby Lobby we headed to Logan's for dinner. That was the best salmon I've had in a while...yummy!

After dinner, I had to teach Kenlie how to call the Hogs before we departed, and she got it! If you don't know what I'm talking about your missing out...right Kenz?

I loved meeting Kenz, and hopefully will be making and decorating some cookies together for the holidays! I'm off to watch the Razorbacks!

Flashback Friday....Chalkboard makeover

This project has evolved over two years. Chalkboards have been the rage in homes for several years now. In 2009, I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and make a chalkboard for my home. I had made one plate chalkboard in the kitchen, but I wanted something bigger. Finally, I rediscovered this picture that was under our bed. The glass was broken, the picture was scratched really bad, so I decided it needed a new life.

I bought some chalkboard paint and this is how it looked for a year! Now you know why you don't see more projects. I have too many started and not finished. Geez!

Here is how it looks today! I love it. I painted the mat a pretty green with some free paint from Glidden, but was not satisfied. I then added some ribbon on top and love it. I also spray painted the frame black. Here is the new and improved chalkboard...

Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze

This past weekend we headed out to Ozark Corn Maze. This is the first time my boys have been to a pumpkin patch/corn maze. Why have I waited so long? I know the plans always seemed to slip away in the past. I'm so glad we finally went. The boys had a blast!

What's going to a pumpkin patch without finding the perfect pumpkin? Caden thought the small pumpkins were so cute, but decided they would not be good for carving and got a bigger one.

Daisy Our New Dog!

We are so excited to finally have another dog in our lives. It has been about a year since Buddy died. Today we got to meet Daisy. She is an adorable black lab. She is so smart, friendly, and already a fantastic dog. She loves to play fetch, will sit, shake, lay down, loves water, and kids. We all are getting so attached to this dog already. We love her!

We have waited patiently for the right dog to come along. We were fortunate to get Daisy from Michael's boss. We have never had a Lab before, but we are so excited!

Outside my window...it is hot! The yard needs to be mowed and our mower is once again broken. Now it's pitch black outside. I'm pretty sure the yard still needs to be mowed.

I am thinking...that I'm glad I decided not to go to town tonight. I'm too tired and we have to guide Cameron with his cell project.

I am thankful...that my new classroom construction has begun!

I am wearing...black capri pants, blue shirt, and barefoot. I need to change out of my work clothes.

I am remembering...why I started blogging in the first place. Michael just encouraged me to keep blogging. I just don't feel like I have the time and energy right now. We will see.

I am creating...a pile of clean laundry to be put away. Exciting, I know.

I am going...to list a few things on Craigslist soon. I need to get rid of our large fish tank, 4 wheeler, and some other things.

I am reading...The Key to Your Child's Heart by Gary Smalley

I am hoping/praying...that Cameron's staph infection heals completely. Also, for the poor attitudes in our family we've been seeing lately.

I am hearing...My boys playing the Wii. Now, just the dryer going. (Oh, and the missing pre-k sheet was found...hooray!)

On my mind...My energy level. I need to order my organic liquid vitamins and start taking them again.

From the learning rooms...Cameron has his big cell project due tomorrow. Caden had to learn that when he eats someones snack at school, not only does he have to write an apology note, but bring triple of what he ate to replace it. He will be paying for it himself too. Arrg!

Pondering these words: The 84 ways we can offend our children and close their spirits from the book I'm reading. Wow, very convicting. Pondering and praying that I will be a better mom to my boys.

From the kitchen... tonight...leftovers. I really need to get back to menu planning!

Around the house...testosterone...need I say more? LOVE it!

Remembering

In memory of all those who lost their lives on this tragic day 9 years ago...

I remember that I was a new mom and was home with my baby, Cameron. I walked into the living room and was watching the TV in disbelief when I realized we were under attack. I remember holding Cameron a little tighter and praying for our country and all those who had just lost loved ones.

Take a moment to pray today...we will never forget.

Outside my window...it is raining! Hallelujah! Oh, how we have missed you!

I am thinking...I'm finally feeling like I can catch my breath, not as overwhelmed and exhausted. I have been super busy with my new job which entails being a pre-k teacher, but also implementing the pre-k program since this is the first year! It is a lot of work. I've already had to move my room, and will move again before the end of the year. Oh, the paper work...you don't even want to know about that!

I am thankful...that Michael has gone above and beyond helping me at school and home. Seriously!

I am wearing...My new plaid shirt, carpi's, and the jewelry and shoes are off. I always take those things off first!

I am remembering...what a wonderful family I have! I'm so thankful for them.

I am creating

...labels for all the manipulatives in my room. Also this blog post! Yea!! I will do better this month!

I am going...to do Zumba with other teachers after school, and then go get more supplies for my classroom. Well that changed when they hired a new K teacher TODAY! I'm in her room until my room is done. No, they are not moving me, but I had to help her go through the closet since it has my pre-k and k stuff in it! I'm still waiting on hubby to get home so I can go get supplies.

I am reading...lots of children's books daily, and not much else.

I am hoping/praying... that my family has a great school year. Cameron is now a 4th grader, Caden is in 1st, Aaron is a sophomore in college, Michael teaches AP Chemistry, and AP Biology, and me...pre-k. We are all about school in this family!

I am hearing...the pitter-patter of the rain...I wish. It sounds better than just the TV and hum of my lap top.

On my mind...Michael's birthday is on Thursday! I want to make it special!

From the learning rooms...Cameron is the Star VIP this week. He is excited about that. One of my best friends is his teacher. She is so wonderful and an excellent teacher...I'm so thankful! That was an answered prayer!

Caden has made it his goal to not get his ticket pulled this year. I love that he is becoming a goal setter. Well, let's just say that hasn't worked so far. One day at a time sweet boy, one day at a time!

Pondering these words: A little boy in my class got his finger pinched today which left a red/purple mark, so I know it hurt. I told him he is so brave. He replied, "when I get hurt, I just smile." Precious!

From the kitchen... My hubby has taken over for a while...seriously! See he DESERVES an awesome birthday!

Around the house... lots of things to be done. I haven't hit my stride at home yet, but it will come. I'm getting back to the Fly Baby basics.

One of my favorite things...My new job. No matter how tough it gets, it is my passion, and they are so stinkin' cute!

Outside my window...it is pitch black outside, and it's past my bed time!

I am thinking...I am going to have a lot of fun this year with my group of preschoolers I met tonight at open house.

I am thankful...that God opened the doors for me to teach again. I'm thankful that He will show me a way to stay balanced soon. I'm praying!

I am wearing...khaki carpi's and my robe. I started getting ready for bed.

I am remembering...what great neighbors we have. Someone left two watermelons on our porch. So thoughtful and kind. Not to mention yummy!

I am creating...a list of "to do's" for tomorrow's dead day! I'm also NOT doing a whole lot on purpose.

I am going...to start walking with some teachers at school on my off days when I don't run.

I am reading...teacher blogs and trying to catch up with my blog friends! I've missed you.

I am hoping/praying...that the kids and parents will do okay Thursday morning. There were a few shy kids tonight and parents who are leaving their child for the first time. We will see. I'm also praying my boys will have a great year this year in school.

I am hearing...My friend Liz's music on her blog! We have similar taste in music, and I'm fixing to pay her a visit.

On my mind...How I really want to focus on my family tomorrow as much as possible. I've cried a lot lately because I really MISS them. The boys have spent time with grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and big brother lately. They spent three nights at granny's. That is the longest we have ever left them somewhere.

From the learning rooms...I have a first grader, fourth grader, and a sophomore in college. Wow! I also have a bunch of four year olds who will be making my days...interesting I'm sure.

Pondering these words: "Choice Words" which was a workshop we had at school. Our guest speaker was a wonderful and an amazing writer. She shared a very sad, but touching story of her school experience in special ed. She also shared how important it is to watch our words and tones. Lots of tears were shared. Guess what I asked her? Do you have a blog? I told her she should because she loves to write, is very good at it, loves to take pictures, and could touch many with her story. She assured me that she would send the link if she did.

From the kitchen...is someone who is tired of eating out! Ugh, starting a new job is hard on the home front!

Around the house...is quite a mess. Also for the same reason as no meal plan! I have been gone a lot!

One of my favorite things...knowing I can make a difference for the Glory of God.

A few plans for the rest of the week...try to get some sleep before school starts on Thursday! I told my para pro/aide, Lela, to have a good weekend tonight. I'm that tired!

Maybe I Should...

Maybe I should get ready for my run tonight. The most talked about day of the c25k... week 5, day 3 is here! I go from my last run being 8 minute intervals to running 20 minutes with NO break. Wish me luck!

I love my husband! Today is our 11th year anniversary. We have been celebrating all weekend.

People would say that I am sweet. (That is the comment I hear most about myself...that is what hubby said that most people say to him too.)

I don't understand why I get too many projects going and have such a hard time completing any of them. Hmmmm, didn't I just anwser my own question?

When I wake up in the morning it will be my test run of getting to school by 7:30 each day.

I lost my dog last year, and really want another one.

Life is full of seasons and journeys that God calls you to, for His glory and for His kingdom.

My past is part of my journey with God. There was a lot of pain with losing my grandma, dad, and grandpa within six months of each other when I was a teenager.

I get annoyed and stressed if I'm running late.

Parties are fun to plan for me. I really enjoy it.

I wish I had more desire to cut sugar out of my diet again.

Tomorrow I am going to officially be a teacher again, after the school board meeting.

I have low tolerance for people who hurt children.

I'm totally terrified of snakes. It makes me shudder to think Michael tagged rattle snakes one summer.

I wonder why I am still going through my old school stuff! I've worked and worked on it.

Never in my life have I had problems with facial hair until I had my boys. Only one side of my lip will grow a couple of hairs to be plucked. I hate it.

High School was a blast. I opted out of going to my 20 year HS reunion this weekend. Since it was our anniversary, and we were kid free, we just spent time with each other. However, I've been sick for at least half of that time.

When I'm nervous I laugh. The boys and I were talking about this today. Cameron was talking about how I started laughing on the roller coaster. My friends at my wedding thought I was crying because my shoulders were moving up and down. I was giggling.

One time at a family gathering I rode in a horse and buggy with some of my Amish relatives.

Take my advice: life without Jesus is no life at all!

Making my bed is one fairly new habit that I love. It makes me happy.

I'm almost always a night owl. That will have to change.

I'm addicted to my family. They are the best.

I want someone to pinch me because my house is quiet. The boys are staying the night at grandmas. Thanks mom!

Bubbles, Bubbles Everywhere!

Our summer fun is going strong. We are checking things off our list, and big bubbles is on it. My boys and I, along with some friends had a blast making huge, colorful bubbles. Wednesday was the last day party fun with Evan and Landon. I have been doing pre-k with Landon this summer. We've really enjoyed them coming over twice a week. Oh, and I cannot wait to have a bubble day with my pre-schoolers! They are going to love it too.

I was inspired to make these bubble wands, and I had to try it out. The first time it did not work for me. Cameron was the first to get it going!

Watch out, here it comes...I figured it out.

This is so much fun and a must try activity.

Wanna know how? Sure you do!

Homemade Bubble Solution

You will need: distilled water, glycerin, and Non-Ultra/Classic Dawn Original Scent. (I used Joy and it worked fine!)

Step 1: Into your Mixing bucket add 6 cups of Distilled Water.

Step 2: Stirring SLOWLY so as not to make lather, add in 2 cups of Non-Ultra/Classic Dawn Original Scent (or Ultra Dish detergent if necessary).

Step 3: Stir in 5-6 drops of Glycerin (double the amount if using Ultra detergent).

Here is another recipe link with great tips.

Bubble Wand

* 2 dowels (we cut some 48" in half...so 24 " dowels worked for us.)

*1 metal washer

*cotton string ( aka butcher's twine)

*2 eye hooks (make sure the cord/string will fit through)

Tip: The first string we tried were thin. It worked, but I felt like I was fishing with my boys. You know, like getting the fishing line untangled from the tree or from a rock. It tangled up a lot. The next day we tried the thicker string and it worked great...no problems.

How to make the wand:

First, take the dowels and screw one eye hook into each of the wooden dowels.

Second, cut your string. One will be 35 inches long, and the second string will be 70 inches long. We wanted big bubbles, but you wouldn't have to have the string that long. Just double what you cut the top string to be.

Third, put the metal washer on the longest string.

Next, tie both strings through the eye hook. Tie the shortest string on top and the longest underneath.

Finally, dip the string into the solution. Keep the dowels together and bring it out of the solution. Now, slowly open it up and walk backwards.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. It's worth it.

You are set! Go make some BIG bubbles!

Outside my window...it is cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Okay, just cloudy.

I am thinking...I am in a blog rut, and you may be seeing less of me soon. I can't seem to get my summer list, Cameron's birthday, Branson, etc. posted....sigh. Oh, and I really want a new blog design! This hopefully is just temporary.

Maybe I'm just really busy!

I am thankful...that Michael and I are still doing the c25k program (week 4) together along with boys on their bikes. I really didn't want to do it last night, but I did. I'm excited my sister just started last night.

I am wearing...shorts and a t-shirt

I am remembering...all this time I was able to stay home with my boys. I will treasure it for the rest of my life. I feel so grateful.

I am creating...Lots of lists and bubble wands for our pre-school party.

I am going...through all my old school stuff to see what I can use in the pre-k classroom.

I am reading...not much, but have a list of books I want to read.

I am hoping/praying...

Last week:...for Kayla Dotson and her family. Kayla is 9 years old. I know her through Upward cheerleading. I was her coach for a year. She had heart surgery at 2:00 today with a Berlin heart and is waiting for a heart transplant. Update: She received a heart transplant yesterday and her heart is beating! Please pray for her and the donor family.

I am hearing...my boys watching television and play with walkie talkies. We all have to get on a school schedule soon!

On my mind...is getting/keeping my priorities straight. I know myself well enough to know with this new job, I could pour all of myself into it. However, I cannot neglect my main priorities... like my family. Balance is the key.

From the learning rooms...This is my last week to do pre-school with Landon. Wednesday will be a fun day!

From the learning rooms...lots of planning on my part and only one month to get ready! I'm excited about the challenge.

Camping Adventure #2...4th of July

Over the 4th of July weekend we headed off to Gore, Oklahoma for our second camping adventure of the year. This camping is different because we stayed in Granny Ida and Grandpa Leroy's 5th wheel camper instead of a tent. When we arrived the boys were greeted with lots of cousins; some cousins were in from Minnesota, which was a big treat.

We were also welcomed on Saturday, our first full day, with rain...lots of rain...all day long! However, that didn't stop the fun.

It was an eye opening day. I swear the boys acted like some teenagers. No hugs, no talking to mom, not really acknowledging I was there...sniff, sniff. However, the main acknowledgement I received was some attitude when they happened to see the camera.

Sunday, the 4th of July was met with lots of sunshine. Michael and I got up and went for our walk/run. When we came back, we took all the kids to the Illinois river to swim and play.

Later in the day there was fishing and boat rides...

Finally, the boys decided to come around for a few 4th of July photos.

One of my favorite shots of the day came from Caden trying to hide from the camera.

That evening more family came to the campsite to enjoy a spread of food. It was really good. Around 6:00 we decided to head out to end the 4th with fireworks at the crosses.

I hope you had a wonderful 4th with your friends and family. I'm so thankful for our freedom.

Micheal Rocks...He is With Me Every Step of the Way!

I mentioned in my last post that I have started the Couch to 5K program. This program is designed to have you running a 5K in about 9 weeks. I'm very excited about this program, but one of my biggest motivators is that Michael has jumped on board. Michael has a background of running in the Navy, but hasn't done it since. (Over 20 years). Me...NEVER! I'll have to dig out one of his 'hot' navy pictures!

Anyway, today was week 2, day 2 of the program. Michael smoked the last interval! Even though Michael is faster than me, and I tell him to go on...he is motivating me. He is making exercising a priority in our life. While he was stretching I am noticing the muscles in his legs. I say, "look at those muscles...that's hot!" I actually did not know if that was just in my head or if I verbalized it. However, I must have because Cameron was smiling from ear to ear. He got a kick out of it and made sure I repeated it to dad. I'm so thankful that my man is on board and is setting a great example for his family.

Michael rocks because he is with me every step of the way in the Couch to 5K.

Today is... Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Outside my window...it is sunny with some dark clouds hovering above. Our grass is coming back, but we could use some more rain!

I am thinking...I would love to spend a weekend at home.

I am thankful...that Michael has joined me in the Couch to 5K program. It has been so wonderful to do something healthy as a family. The boys ride their bikes while we walk/jog. I'm also thankful that my car has new tires, alignment, oil change, and a new windshield.

Thanks honey!

I am wearing...workout clothes. We did week 2, day 1 of the program this morning. Woohoo!

I am remembering...how I didn't finish the Shred. I stopped at day 23. However, it's time to move forward. I want this time to be different, Lord willing. I will be unstoppable!

I am creating...a place for all of my boys school work and projects that we want to keep. I'm very excited about something that is working for me!

I am going...to try a new Olive Garden inspired recipe this week.

I am reading...hmmm, not much at the moment. I need to get up earlier for nice quiet time before the boys wake up.

I am hoping/praying...that I hear from the school soon!

I am hearing...how Caden wants something else to eat...again...growing boys!

On my mind...Cameron's 9th birthday party, the school year, and my man.

Camping Adventure #1

The first week of summer break we decided to go camping at Lake Wedington. We were thrilled that my sister's family decided to join our camping adventure. We are making lots of great memories camping every year. We are also looking forward to our annual camping trip this 4th of July weekend with Michael's family in Oklahoma.

The kids had a lot of fun riding bikes on the campground. I love that we are away from the electronics and outdoors.

There was a hill and a corner. Being the cautious mom I am, I yell out S-L-O-W down. Well, Cameron decides to obey and slams on his brakes on this corner and wrecks. Thank goodness for all the protection he had on. He actually had elbow and knee pads on at the time too.

Cameron and Sharee decide to hang out in the play tent for a while.

There's always fun with water when we camp. My nephew, Devin was being a little impatient wanting to "get wet". Well, leave it up to Uncle Michael to surprise him.

One thing I could do without...my new French manicure bites the dust the first day!

Outside my window...the boys are playing with cars on the front porch. Now, they are in bed sound asleep.

I am thinking...I'm so glad it rained the other day. Our yard sure did need it.

I am thankful...that my mom's health scare is going to be okay with antibiotics. Glory to God!

I am wearing...shorts and a t-shirt

I am remembering...how much fun it is to spray paint things!

I am creating...a grocery list, a pile of plastic for the boys to find matching lids too, spray painting my picnic basket, and a clear protective coat on my table outside.

I am going...to start the Couch to 5 K program tomorrow. I'm so thrilled Michael will be joining me. The boys will be riding their bikes while we walk/jog. I really want to complete this program!

I am reading..."So Long, Insecurity: You've Been a Bad Friend to Us" by Beth Moore. I will also be following along with her blog entries that she has previously done on this book.

I am hoping/praying...I will be a teacher again soon!

I am hearing...my boys making a snow cone for themselves. After all it is an outside day/indoor play. No TV, computers, or Wii for them today. Okay, that did not last but half a day. Why, oh why do a cave sometimes? They just love Wipe Out.

On my mind...how I need to pray for my husband more. I'll be pulling out Stormie Omartian's The Power of a Praying Wife.

From the learning rooms...Caden has been talking a lot about volcanoes lately. So, we will be taking a trip to the library this week to check out some books. I have started doing pre-school twice a week with Landon, the son of some good friends. I also taught his older brother.

Pondering these words..."Lord, I need Your holiness penetrate my life and wash away anything that is unholy in me. Take away any attitude, any hidden sin of the mind, any activity or action that I do which is not what You would have for me. I know You did not call me to uncleanness, but to holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7). Show me the way to holiness in my own life." I read this in Stormie Omartian's book, "The Prayer That Changes Everything". This is my prayer this week.

Watermelon Turtle!

Oh, sweet summer time! Who doesn't love a cold sweet watermelon in the summer? Want to take a ordinary watermelon and turn it into something extraordinary? Meet Mr. Turtle!

This is my first turtle I ever made.

Last week I had the privilege of making a watermelon turtle for my niece's birthday party. She is such a doll, even with blue teeth!

First, I made one for Cameron's 8th birthday, and even re-used the shell at a family reunion several days later. Just wrap and keep in the fridge. Mr. Turtle has been a hit no matter where he goes...

not to mention delicious and refreshing!

What you will need:

An oblong seedless watermelon
vegetable peeler or a tool to carve ( I ended up using a flat head screwdriver)
fruit
Super Glue
Whole Peppercorns
toothpicks
melon ball scoop
dry erase marker
leaves from around your home
sharp knife
platter

How to Make the Turtle

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

Step 2: Wash all the fruit, including the watermelon.

Step 3: Cut the watermelon and using a melon ball scoop, scoop out the inside of the watermelon and set aside. I also put an old towel under the watermelon to catch the mess.

If you cannot find an oblong shaped seedless watermelon, pick out the seeds. I had not done that yet at this point. Put some watermelon away, so you will have room for other fruit.

Step 4: Now, that both sides of the watermelon are empty, use your melon ball scoop and scrape out the rest.

Step 5: Draw your body parts on one of the turtle shells and cut out. Lay the pieces aside.

Next, draw the shell. We are not aiming for perfection here...turtle shells are not perfect.

Step 6: Carve out the design you drew and set aside. It should look something like this...

Step 7: Fill the bottom shell with lots of colorful fruit!

Step 8: Grab a platter and some leaves. Place the fruit shell on the platter. Then chill until it is time to serve.

Step 9: Now for the body parts you set aside. Take the head and carve out two small holes for the eyes. Then, super glue two eyes on. (peppercorn)

Step 10: Attach the body parts using toothpicks.

Now enjoy the fruits of your labor! ;0P

I love fun questionnaires like I've done on my boys here and here! So I asked Michael if he would participate in Love Games at Marriage Tales, and he kindly obliged.

1. What is the first thing you noticed about your wife when you met?
The very first thing, her laughter on the first day I was a teacher. I was captivated.

Yes, we were in a teacher meeting. I was sitting with some co-workers and having a good time. Michael being the new teacher sat in the back with other newbies couldn't keep his eyes off of me once my laugh drew him in. Soon after, I did start noticing that he just happened to be in the teacher break room when I was.

2. What is something your wife does that drives you crazy? (In a bad way, let's not get freaky on here people!)
The way she deals with stress or doesn't deal with stress.

Yes, it does. I'm working on that.

3. If money wasn't an option what is one thing you would make sure you always had done for your wife?
Fresh flowers everyday. Seasonal flowers.

He has always been so good at surprising me with flowers just out of the blue. ;o)

4. When do you find your wife most attractive?
When she is happy. She is radiant when she is happy.

I believe that is a daily goal of his! He strives to please and make me happy.

5. What does your wife do for you that you totally appreciate and would miss if it was gone?
Smiles and laughs. When she laughs our boys will come running from the other end of the house to be around her.

He makes me laugh!

6. If you had your wedding day to do over again and everything was your call, would you keep everything the same? Change something? Everything?
I wouldn't change the wedding, but I would have a better reception.

I agree.

7. What's one beauty up keep that you wish your wife didn't do? Or what's one beauty thing you wish she did do?
Use my razor to shave her legs.

8. If you could go or be any where in the world with your wife right now, where would that be?
Maui. I have been there in the Navy. I would love to share it with my wife.

9. What is one moment you wish you could back and relive with your wife just to get to experience again? Would you change anything?

Kings River Falls Fun

Recently our gang headed out for a day trip to Kings River Falls. The Falls is located at the interface of the Springfield Plateau and Boston Mountains subdivisions of the Ozark Mountains. It takes about ~1 hour from our home; however, it is not far from our little log cabin we lived in when we were newlyweds. As a matter of fact, we drove up to the home to show the boys where we first lived. Cameron was two months old when we sold it. After the detour, we finally arrive at the Falls. There was about a two mile hike until we reached our desired destination.

The boys were thrilled to find some hiking sticks that someone had left behind.

It was a nice hike and well worth it when we got to the beautiful swimming hole! The first time for the boys.

It didn't take long before the boys starting jumping off the rocks. Of course, starting off with the lower ones first. Once they mustered up the courage they started jumping off the 10-12 feet rocks! Michael was so proud and said, "I didn't even do that at their age."

Next, the boys decided to check out the water fall. It did start rain on us for a moment at one point, but that didn't phase them.

On our way back we decided to pause for a break...

and a little more fun...

and a lot of silliness!

Today is... Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Outside my window... the sun is out with rain in the forcast. I just had to get up because that is NOT a snake on my front porch curled up! Whew, just two leftover bananas left on the porch from our camping trip. Okay, GROSS!

I am thinking...how much I enjoyed our camping trip and having Michael home most of the week last week. I already miss him!

I am thankful...for an Amazing God that loves me, even when I don't deserve it!

I am wearing... t-shirt and shorts

I am remembering...how nervous I was just a little over a week ago leading ~140 Kindergartners in their songs during graduation. Not in my comfort zone; however, with Christ all things are possible. They did awesome!

I am creating...a cleaner home. I will be doing preschool with a friends son next week. We are also working on our summer list.

I am going...to enjoy every minute of this summer with my family. I know it will go fast!

I am reading..."So Long, Insecurity: You've Been a Bad Friend to Us" by Beth Moore. I will also be following along with her blog entries that she has previously done on this book.

I am hoping/praying...that I get a primary/pre-school job for this next school year.

I am hearing...my boys laughing and playing the Wii. Okay, now arguing.

On my mind...what Michael just told me over the phone (about possibly going back to college.)

From the learning rooms...I was so proud that Caden was the ambassador for his class for the last couple of months. That was a big deal, because Caden had some issues early on in Kindergarten, like not sitting still and leaving a station to go to the one he wants. He made a big improvement. I'm so proud of you Caden! Academic wise...no worries at all; He needs to be challenged.

Pondering these words..."one of the by-products of quality activities is that they provide a memory bank from which to draw in the years ahead."

I want to create a full bank of wonderful memories with my family.

From the kitchen...hmmm, what's for dinner? I need to get back to menu planning again. I'm thinking I'll make some banana nut bread today...mmmm.

Around the house...is a lot of noise from the boys. I know one day, I'll probably miss that.

Now, it can drive me nuts!

One of my favorite things...clean sheets and my bed made every morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week...

*Sharee's birthday party (my niece)

*Making a watermelon turtle fruit bowl for her party like I did here.

*Last week for baseball. (Cameron's team was eliminated last night in the tournament). Two more games for Caden. He hit it to the fence last night. Woohoo!

Baseball Clinic, Naturals Game, and My Star

Summer time is here! The boys and I finally got out of school on June 7th! We are not finished with our summer fun "to do" list; however, that hasn't stopped us from having fun! Sunday, after church, we headed to the Naturals (a minor league) clinic. I noticed the clinic on facebook, and knew the boys would enjoy being taught by some pros. After being split up into different age groups, we hit the fields. Parents were welcomed onto the field also, which I thought was really cool.

The Great Date Experiment #2

Friday night, Michael and I participated in Date 2 of The Great Date Experiment. After the death of my grandma this week, it was good to go out! This date was based around a progressive dinner where you hop from one restaurant to another. We chose to go to the Olive Garden for our appetizer (salad and bread sticks) and main entree. Then, we headed to Copelands for our dessert. Yummy!

Of course this date also had many thought provoking questions like: "Would you rather take a one-week $5000 vacation or go on five different long weekends that cost $1000 each?" or "One of the nicest thing you have ever done is____________." We laughed at a lot of the pet names they suggested for the husband to use that night like, "Gansta baby" or "Bunches of Oats"...um, no thanks! Ha! I got the best part, patting my man on the gluteus maximus at least two times before the night is over.

After our dinner we were told to select a store to buy your spouse a $2 or less gift... the thought is ALL that count$. We then had 10 minutes to complete this task. Well, we choose none other than this store.
Once inside we separated. I stayed on one side of the store and Michael stayed on the other. Well, for the most part. He did try to sneak a peek or two. Here are the gifts:

My gift from Michael: Sugar Babies: "Give me some 'sugar, baby'!" Trail Mix: Michael said it has healthy things like peanuts, raisins, pineapple, and bananas. (I'm trying to eat healthy) But, it also has my weakness chocolate. It's kind of like our marriage. 80% healthy, 20% needs improvement!

My gift to Michael: Duster-to keep our marriage clean and shining. I also bought the infuser to...keep our marriage spicy! Oh, yeah!

Looking a little tired and rough, but happy! Okay, be nice!

Once home, we turned up the music and danced under the *stars*....it was a great night.

Remember the black eye?

I was panicking on the inside, apparently a little, okay a lot on the outside too. One of the dad's on Cameron's team said, "stay on the bleachers mom"...in a gentle tone. Last week Cameron was playing baseball on Tuesday night and got hit with a fast ball...in the eye. He definitely had his eye on the ball! When it happened, I saw he was hit, but I did not know where. He took off to first base and stopped about half way there. The coaches ran over to him. I was just hoping he wasn't hit in the head or wasn't going to pass out. Flash backs from his tree incident came flooding in as the adrenaline kicked in.

Michael was so calm as usual. Cameron went to the dugout and got some ice on his eye right away. Once again I wanted to run over there, but knew I better calm down first. I kept saying go Michael...go see about him. Finally, he did. The minute it took him to get up, felt like 10 minutes. Michael doesn't panic. I do. I love that he helps to calm me down.

Back to the tree incident. Cameron was watching me as he laid strapped down with a neck brace on and hands and feet tied down. I could not help but tear up looking at my child that I just about lost. Well, it was not helping Cameron. He would not take his eyes off of mine. Finally, my mom saw it too and made me go sit down. Well, Michael comes in calm and collected. He even got Cameron to smile and laugh a little. I love that about Michael!

Happy Mother's Day Mom

I am so thankful for what a wonderful mom God has blessed me with. When I think about my mom I think about someone who is a hard worker and a strong woman. However, one of my favorite characteristics has to be her generous heart. My mom has been a giver as long as I can remember. When I was a child she opened up our home and took care of four foster children along with us. She also opened the Busy Bee Daycare where I grew to love teaching children, and my passion to become a teacher was realized.

Mom has always enjoyed kids...especially now her grand kids!

She is always one who is called on, because people/family know they can count on her to be there for them. Just last week, she took my car while I was at work and cleaned it out and washed it for me! That was such a nice surprise and treat!

Thank you for inspiring me to become the woman I am today, and the woman I am becoming! I love you Mom!

Psalm 23...By the Boys

I believe hiding God's word in our hearts is a valuable tool for ourselves, but also a gift to give to our children. Why should we hide God's word into our hearts? Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

I have found that kids tend to memorize things easier than adults at times. The boys have memorized various verses through Sunday school, Upward Basketball, and at home. The first verse I recorded from home was The Lord's Prayer. The next big verse is Psalm 23. I shared not too long ago one way I help my boys memorize scripture, in the car.

Over a month later after studying and memorizing this particular Psalm, the boys still know it and want to share it with you. Caden's video would not load, so I will be sharing that hopefully next Sunday. Even though it is showing black for some reason, it still works.

Michael Rocks...He Is a Good Provider

I can remember on a particular date, before marriage, at a Mexican restaurant in Fayetteville, we talked about having kids. Michael told me then he would want me to stay home with them at least until they were in school. His mom did that, as well as mine. We were married for about two years when we found out we were pregnant. One day at church, we felt the Lord talking to us simultaneously. We went to the alter that day, knowing God's will for our children and us was for me to stay home. We didn't know how we would make it, but we surrendered to His will on that day.

Michael is a teacher. He teaches AP Chemistry and Biology to high school juniors and seniors. He has a passion for teaching and connects with his students on a daily basis. He is respected and admired at school. To help make ends meet over the past eight years, Michael has taken on various extra jobs or learned new skills to help out financially. Michael has done what it takes to help make my time of being a SAHM possible. I appreciate the sacrifices that he has made to make it happen. Thanks honey!

Taco Ring Recipe

I had a few requests for this recipe so here it is...simple and delicious.

Ingredients:

3/4 lb lean ground beef
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4 ounces)
2 tablespoons water

2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
1 medium bell pepper (I didn't have one so I used a tomato as seen in the picture)
1 cup salsa
3 cups lettuce, shredded
1 medium tomato
1/4 cup onion, chopped (optional)
1/2 cup pitted ripe black olives (optional)
sour cream (optional)

Directions:

1. Cook ground beef in large skillet over medium heat until beef is no longer pink; drain.
2. Remove pan from heat.
3. Stir in taco seasoning mix, cheese and water.
4. Preheat oven to 375°F.
5. Unroll crescent dough; separate into triangles.
6. Arrange triangles in a circle on Classic Round Pizza Stone with wide ends overlapping in center and points toward outside. (There should be a 5 inch diameter opening in center.) I use my Pampered Chef pizza stone, but any flat round pan should work--perhaps even a pizza sheet, but I'd spray it with Pam before adding the crescent rolls.
7. Scoop meat mixture evenly onto widest end of each triangles up over filling and tuck under wide ends of dough at center of ring. (Filling will not be completely covered).
8. Bake at 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
9. Shred lettuce and chop tomato, onion, olives, and bell pepper (if desired).
10. If you want to do something fancy, scoop out a bell pepper and fill with salsa (I used sour cream, but added the salsa on top of my slice) and put into center of ring.
11. Add your toppings to the middle of the ring and finish with more shredded cheese and sour cream.

I am going to be starting a great meme called My Husband Rocks on Fridays! Katy from The Great Adventure is the one behind this great idea. Be sure and visit her to find out why she was inspired to start this. I just love this mission statement:

My first "Michael Rocks"...

The following e-mail was written and sent by Michael on Monday, March 29, 2010 after our wonderful weekend together and our first Great Date. Michael is always calling me during the day or sending e-mails. This week he even left a note on the sandwich he made for my lunch. (He used a sharpie and wrote it on saran wrap.)

The Email:

It's a SPRING SWAP!

I participated in my very first swap. Wooohoooo! It was so much fun 'stalking' my partner's blog and getting to know her better. A big thank you to Shortmama for hosting it! My swap partner was Beth from The Patchwork Chronicles. I love how we both love aprons and like to make crafts. Now on to the goodies:

Cute notepad, piggie post-its, a delicious smelling candle, and a coupon organizer that is adorable and the perfect size to fit into my purse.

Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail

On Easter we went to my moms for lunch. I made this bunny to take along which was a big hit. It was easy to make and so cute, so I will be making it again. All you need is two frozen loaves of bread dough, an assortment of veggies, lettuce, and dip. I made a homemade Ranch dip with a Ranch packet and one small tub of sour cream.

To make the bunny: cut the dough into pieces to make all the body parts, cover, let rise. Brush with egg, bake 30 minutes at 350. Let the bread cool completely. Now for the facial features: add two raisins for the eyes and sliced almonds for teeth. Transfer bunny to tray covered in lettuce. Next, cut out center of bunny belly, add a lettuce layer, and then your dip. Add your assortment of veggies around. That's it!

Outside my window...it is sunny and a gorgeous day. I'm loving the spring weather lately.

I am thinking....that my baby will be graduating kindergarten in a couple of months. Where does time go?

I am thankful... for the opportunity to have another long term sub position this school year. If you see the blog posts slowing down, or me not getting to visit as often...that is the reason. I am the 'music teacher' and have 168 kids to teach each week. I'm loving it!

I am wearing ....khaki capri pants, black shirt, and my new "switch" flops I made with my friend Tammy's help.

I am remembering...how tired I get at the beginning of subbing full time. It usually takes about a week for my body to get use to it. I'm in my second full week, and it is getting a little easier now.

I am creating....lots on my list, but not completing much.
The bathroom project has been put on hold till things slow down a little.

I am going....to finish one project I've started by the end of the week! I guess the first thing would be to decide what project it will be.

I am reading...The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace. I'm continuing reading in the Bible in 90 Days, although that has come to completion for many. They will be starting another one July 1st. If your interesting in starting this journey for yourself go here to learn more.

I am hoping...I can get in for a cut and color soon. I always feel better when my hair looks good!

We practiced this song for the talent show, and it's one of the K graduation songs. I've even dreamed about this song! I can't seem to get it out of my head.

From the learning rooms...Caden tested this past week at school for two days. Cameron will be taking the benchmark four days, all day long this week! I am making sure he is prepared, well rested, eating well, and staying hydrated.

From the kitchen...Taco Ring for dinner tonight. It's an easy fix and pretty presentation.

Around the house...my sink is shiny and the bed is made. I need to de-clutter everyday so I don't get behind even more at home.

One of my favorite things...Cadbury chocolate eggs...glad they only are out once a year!

A few plans for the rest of the week....Teaching, baseball practice, Razorback baseball game, yard sales, and intentional time spent with the family.

Easter is just around the corner. I thought I would share a tradition we do in my family. One thing we do for Easter is make sure the kids understand the true meaning of Easter. Easter bunny, baskets, goodies, egg hunts are fun....but there is a bigger, better meaning behind it all. One of the things we do each year to show the true meaning is to share the story of Jesus dying on the cross and being raised 3 days later through baking Resurrection Cookies.

Here is a copy of the recipe and the story to go along with it.

Grab your apron and let's get started!

What you will need:

A zip lock bag
A wooden spoon
Mixing bowl
Cookie sheet with wax paper
Scotch tape
Bible

Ingredients:

1 cup of whole pecans
3 egg whites
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp. vinegar
1 pinch of salt

Instructions: These are to be made the evening before Easter.

Preheat the oven to 300 F. (This is important to do at the beginning. Don't wait until you are half way done with the cookies.)

Place pecans in the zip lock bag, and let children beat it with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Add one teaspoon of vinegar into a mixing bowl . Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to the vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high for 11-15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in the broken nuts, drop tsp. of dough onto waxed paper-covered cookie sheet.

Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:65-66.

Put cookie sheet in the oven. Close the door and TURN THE OVEN OFF! Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66.

GO TO BED!

Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20, 22.

On Resurrection Morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie! Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Resurrection Day, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb empty! Read Matthew 28:1-9.

Spring Break 2010

Wow, Spring Break has come and gone. This year we decided to go back and visit Terra Studios for a picnic. It was a beautiful day in the low 70's, with snow still on the ground. We invited grandma to come along, and she got to stay for the picnic. We were glad Aaron could come along too and chose to spend time with us on his break. I remember how busy I was in college; all the studying and working.

They love each other...really they do...lots of hugs!

This year, we got to see someone actually make the world famous bluebirds. It was very interesting to watch, and educational.

The Great Date Experiment

Michael and I are really excited about The Great Date Experiment that our church has put together. Earlier this year we decided we wanted to go on more dates. Typically we go on one a month. Now that our church offers a Friday Night Out, we figured we could go more often. I love the six dates that are planned out for us (which we downloaded and printed off) to help us get out of a dating rut.

The six Great Dates revolves around one of six essentials of marriage and focuses on communication. Wanna join in? Watch this video and learn more!

Great Date #1

We had a blast together! It was interesting to have someone else plan our date and provide great questions.

Our first stop, after dropping the boys off at my sister's house, was Colten's for dinner. According to the date "rules" we were supposed to let the waitress choose our meal. We could give her one stipulation, so we told her no seafood. Since Michael is the picky one I let him choose the stipulation. I was not nervous at all, but our waitress was! I told Michael before we got to the restaurant that we would either get someone who was excited to play along, or get someone who would be apprehensive. Even though she was nervous, she picked out great food. Michael was served a steak, salad, and stemmed broccoli. I had loaded chicken with a side of sweet potato fries. It was so good.

Before we left we had more fun with our waitress. You should have seen her face after she took our picture and asked if there is anything else she was suppose to do. I jokingly replied, "pick up the tab" Ha! We did leave her a big tip for being a good sport. We had great conversation and felt like two teenagers in love while throwing peanut shells at each other.

The next point was to choose an activity to do together. We were going to go to the Razorback baseball game, but I didn't bring my coat and it was getting cold. We chose a movie instead. No, movies are not the best place for conversation, but we chose the drive-in movies where it is more intimate and asked our questions in between the movies. We watched Blindside (again), and New Moon.

There were great questions to be discussed; picking out a $2.00 dessert in a grocery store for each other; yelling "my husband is HOT" in public; kissing at every red light until someone honks; and carving our initials into a tree. So many fun ideas! We laughed and laughed because we went through many stop lights and they were all green. Finally, we started hitting a few red ones, but nobody would honk at us, even after it turned green a while. Ha!

I love dating my husband! One of my Love Languages is quality time. After last night...

Outside my window...the snow has melted, and we have a lake at our house. It is gorgeous outside and around 68 degrees.

I am thinking....I need to take a nap after not sleeping good last night, before I go to my bible study.

I am thankful ...that this week is Spring Break. We get to spend some quality time together.

I am wearing...An Arkansas Razorback hoodie, jeans, and tennis shoes. I'm sure I have mud on me somewhere after our picnic and snowball fight.

I am remembering...how good it feels to be outside in the sunshine and fresh air. I loved hanging out with the family today.

I am creating... a bathroom makeover and a garden.

I am going...to load all the pictures I took from our trip to Terra Studios.

I am reading...The Bible in 90 Days and The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace. I am not going to achieve reading the Bible in 90 days, I'm too far behind, but I'm enjoying spending time daily with the Lord, and I will read the bible through this year!

I am hoping/praying...that my sister's mother-in-law is continuing to do better after a she had a wreck last week.

On my mind...our country's health care system that passed and what that means.

From the learning rooms...Caden is reading lots of books for 'Book It' this week. The boys are really getting into Shiloh when I read it to them every night. For the past two chapters, the boys say, "nooooooo...don't stop", at the cliff hangers.

Pondering these words ..."I think I can, I think I can"...from The Little Engine That Could. Giving myself a pep talk!

From the kitchen...almost completely deep cleaned and organized...almost.

Around the house...I've decided on my colors for the bathroom! That is half the battle. Michael picked up the paint for the walls; however, I still need to do the prep work.

One of my favorite things...is taking pictures.

A few plans for the rest of the week...date night, bible study, baseball practice, work on the bathroom.

Bringing Spring Inside...Amazing Tip!

What do you do when you want to open the windows to let in fresh air, but it's to cold outside and looks like this?

You duck!

Okay, after you dodge the snowballs, why not bring a little Spring inside too? I saw this tip the other day and had to try it. If you have a forsythia bush you can try it too!

Friday, when it was so pretty outside, I decided to trim some bushes. My forsythia bush was needing a good trim. I trimmed some of the limbs and brought them inside. No blooms...yet. We are going to force the blooms to grow! It is so cool.

First, take your cuttings you have inside...

Next, take a hammer and start pounding the end of your cutting.

Until it looks like this....

Then, fill up a vase with warm water and add your cuttings. Put your vase by a window...

Spring clean your kitchen and make the Fly Lady proud of your shiny sink!

Three days later....

You have BLOOMS!

I LOVE IT!

It will brighten up any room in the snowiest of SPRING days.

Spring in Northwest Arkansas

Friday was a beautiful day with the high of 70! I spent the afternoon outside trimming some bushes and sanding my vanity for my bathroom makeover. It felt so good to be outside on such a gorgeous day.

Saturday, March 20th, the first day of Spring...Mother Nature brings us...snow

My nephew, Devin came over for the day and for a sleep over.

This is what we woke up to on Sunday...8-12 inches of snow in Northwest Arkansas. The biggest snow yet! It has snowed all day too! Even though I long to wear capri pants and flip flops, to be eating out of my garden, baseball, yard sales, and picnics. Those will have to wait a little bit longer...I will enjoy the beauty of the snow.

I just LOVE this kid!

Caden has a big personality. He is full of life and fun...he is a character. Caden is affectionate and a love bug. I asked him one day if he will still hug me when he is 16..."of course mom...I just love you so much"! I hope so.

Here is glimpse of his big heart...

February 8th: Caden informed me, "I better listen to my parents because

God is always watching!"

February 15th: Caden came in one morning last week and was cuddling in bed with me. All of a sudden he pipes up and says, "you are a sweet little teapot." Awwww...you melt my heart Caden. Then he says, "I'm not calling you names mom ,like the time I called you a 'candle light', and I got in trouble because you thought I was calling you names." I had to smile. I remember that, but was hoping he did not.

"I just wish I could hug you forever"

March 17: Getting Caden ready for picture day at school. I say, "Caden you look so handsome." He leaves looking at himself in my full length mirror and says, "I DO look handsome" as he skips away, and then said, "I love myself!" Awww!

Do I Have the Luck of the Irish?

I love receiving mail...you know snail mail. I have had my fair share lately. In the month of January I won five giveaways. I've also won one in February, and now one in March! That is way more than all of last year.

Some may say I am lucky; however, I truly believe I AM BLESSED! I believe the Lord is blessing us for doing the 12 Days of Giving in December when we didn't have a lot of extra money, but still gave with our hearts and out of love. When you give with a closed fist you can receive nothing in return. But, when you open your hand, you are an open hand giver and can also receive blessings. I've always been a giver at heart. However, I have been a closed fist giver at times. Thinking I would love to give when... I have more money, or if I could give BIG. On one income, things are tight...thus the closed fist. The Lord has opened my eyes. He loves a cheerful giver! I want to share because I want to remember my blessings.

Outside my window...it looks dreary out today. There is also a vanity that waits to be painted, a garden tilled, bikes to be put up, and buds are appearing on the trees. (1 hour later....Update: the sun has broken through and it is glorious outside now!)

I am thinking....I have so much to do that it is overwhelming me today.

I am thankful... for being over my sinus infection and the health of my family!

I am wearing ....workout clothes because it's a must to exercise today!

I am remembering...that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I am creating....a long to do list.

I am going....to go to a Dr. Seuss Family night at school tonight.

I am reading...The Bible in 90 Days and The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace.

I am hoping...I make the most out of today!

On my mind...our family night on Thursday, and our meeting to discuss sponsoring a child from Kenya, Africa through Compassion! The need is so great.

From the learning rooms... the boys are learning Psalm 23 on the car rides to and from school. They are doing great!

From the kitchen...Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad with homemade Italian dressing.
I will also be making white chocolate popcorn with green sprinkles for St. Patrick's day for my boys and Cameron's teacher since she loves it so much! It is so good!

Around the house...I hear the washer and dryer. I need to turn on some music!

One of my favorite things...~Spring Break~

We all are off at the same time! The perks of being teachers!
Last year Michael's break was one week and the boys the next. Cameron said that if they don't change that rules, then he would have to become President to make sure the schools have the same spring break. We are thankful that it got worked out!

A few plans for the rest of the week....

*Tuesday-Dr. Seuss family night for 3rd graders.

*Wednesday-XCLR 8 at church.

*Thursday-Family night-Aaron comes home.

*Friday- Date night... our first Big Great Date Experiment.

Saturday-Clean out shed area and take stuff to the recycling center.

Start on the bathroom makeover.

Sunday-Church, teach, Grandmas..REST!

From my picture journal...

The boys are in the car for at least 30 minutes six days a week. Last year on our trip to school in the mornings I would pray with the boys, and then I started teaching them the Lord's Prayer. They learned it by the repetition. Now, I want them to learn Psalm 23. I just added the prayer cards to the car to help them learn this Psalm. They know half of it right now, and do not let me forget about it in the mornings. They really enjoy memorizing scripture.

100 Days Of School! (Actually more now)

100 days of school have come and gone. I cannot believe there are only 52 days left of this school year! For Kindergarten, celebrating 100 days of school is a big deal. Each year there is a family project that is required. This year we were suppose to make a poster celebrating 100, and are required to have 100 items on our poster. I remember doing Cameron's K poster. We glued 100 school related objects on a foam board. It was cute! This year for Caden we decided to use a picture.

First, I took Caden out in the snow for a little photo shoot.

Next, we gathered all the supplies: lined poster board, paper cutter, glue, brush, foam board, and an 8 X 10 picture.

Then, Michael and I cut the picture into 1 x 1 inch squares. After all, it is suppose to be a family project. If you do the math then you will know it does not come out to 100. So, we added square stickers to the poster that said Caden's name and "Winter 2010" to make it 100.

While we were cutting the picture, Caden was cutting some foam board into squares to help give some of the pictures a 3-D effect.

After that, Caden started gluing down the squares, as I made sure he had it in order. The grids on the poster board were a huge help to make sure the pictures were spaced correctly.
